The Runners' Clinic

Exceptional Staff

The Runner’s Clinic team members — Medical College of Wisconsin physicians, certified and licensed athletic trainers, physical therapists and a dietitian — work together to ensure your training experience is as beneficial and rewarding as possible. Meet our team:

Physician
Craig C. Young, MD, Medical Director
Medical College of Wisconsin Family Medicine Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Young is the company physician for the Milwaukee Ballet and a primary care physician for the Milwaukee Brewers. He provides primary care for many school sports teams, and served as medical director for Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon.

Athletic Trainers
Joe Hoff, MS, ATC/L
Athletic Trainer

Michael Ribar, ATC/L, PES
Head Athletic Trainer/Performance Enhancement Specialist

Licensed Athletic Trainers (LATs) at the Sports Medicine Center work with athletes to help them focus on goals and develop a competitive advantage. The LATs are health professionals with a bachelor’s degree; many LATs at the Sports Medicine Center also have master’s degrees. If an injury has led you to seek services at The Runner’s Clinic, you may meet with one of our LATs initially to determine the extent of the injury and whether a physician referral is in order. Our program ensures athletes follow proper exercise and stretching methods as they develop the muscle groups needed for the demands of endurance events. An athletic trainer may work with you at a follow-up appointment to fine tune exercise techniques.

Physical Therapists
Chris Melkovitz, PT
Physical Therapist

Carrrie Truebenbach, MS, MSPT, OCS
Lead physical therapist

Jeff Wilkens, MPT
Physical Therapist

The Sports Medicine Center’s physical therapists often treat injured runners. The therapists engage in running and endurance training as a primary source of physical fitness. Other staff members have interest and experience working with runners.

As a former collegiate runner at Boston University, physical therapist Carrie Truebenbach continues to participate in road races including marathons. She received her master’s degree in kinesiology and biomechanics from UW-Milwaukee. Her thesis work utilized metabolic testing, three-dimensional motion analysis and force data to study the impact of fatigue on running mechanics in female runners. Additionally, Carrie assists in the overall design and implementation of the Sports Medicine Program’s Performance Enhancement Program (PEP).

Dietitian
Kate Pollock, RD, CD
Registered dietitian

Runners may meet with our dietician as part of The Runners’ Clinic. For those wishing to seek nutritional services only, call Kate at the Sports Medicine Center at 414-805-7461 or 414-805-8602.
