Tests

All patients will undergo the tests below. Tests that have been performed elsewhere may be substituted for these tests. Patients should bring copies of the actual test results. All testing schedules will be adjusted based on risks and prior testing results.

Cardiovascular risk assessment

  • Maximal stress treadmill or EKG depending on age and risks
  • Lipid panel
  • HS-CRP
  • Coronary calcium scan if age and risk appropriate

Cancer risk assessment

  • Lung cancer assessment
  • Colon cancer screening
  • Skin exam
  • PSA and prostate exam for men
  • Breast and Pap smear with HPV testing for women

Diabetes risk assessment

  • Fasting blood sugar and hemoglobin A1C
  • Metabolic Syndrome risk assessment

Fitness testing using national age and sex-adjusted percentiles

  • Aerobic testing (VO2 max based on maximal stress treadmill)
  • Upper body strength
  • Core strength
  • Flexibility
  • Balance

      Routine testing

      • Complete blood count
      • Kidney function
      • Liver enzymes
      • Vitamin D levels
      • Thyroid
      • Serum proteins
      • Urine

Female exams (performed by a female nurse practitioner)

      • Exam
      • Mammogram
      • Bone density
      • Pap smear and HPV

Chest X-ray initially, and then every 5 years if normal, but annually if smoker

Abdominal ultrasound once if over age 60

      Pulmonary function tests, all smokers

      Hearing exam, over age 55

Colonoscopy over age 50 or at risk — this test can be scheduled through the Executive Health Program and billed directly to the executive’s private insurance (please check with your health insurance providers for pre-authorization requirements). Since a colonoscopy requires mild sedation and, therefore, a ride to and from the test, it is not scheduled on the same day as the executive health exam.

Dr. Gleeson will make referrals to Medical College specialists as needed after the exam. If you have a known need in advance, these can be arranged on the day of your visit.
