Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Lead Nation in Kidney Transplant Survival Rates
Milwaukee, WI (May 18, 2009) — According to data recently released by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Transplant Center has the highest one-year kidney transplant survival rate (99.1 percent), as well as the highest one-year graft survival rate (97.6 percent) in the nation among 91 programs that perform more than 70 transplants per year.
“Transplant is the ultimate multidisciplinary endeavor,” said Christopher Johnson, MD, Medical College of Wisconsin transplant surgeon and director of the Froedtert & The Medical College Transplant Center. He credits the combined expertise of physicians and others on the kidney transplant team for the exceptional survival rates, citing more than a dozen specialties that play a critical role in successful kidney transplantation.
“We have a depth of expertise many programs cannot claim,” Dr. Johnson said. “To stay at this level, we constantly analyze our outcomes.” Froedtert & The Medical College Transplant Surgeons conduct about 120 kidney transplants per year.
