Breast Center Cited for Quality

Milwaukee, WI (June 24, 2009) – Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Breast Center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Just 10 breast care programs in Wisconsin have received this accreditation.

A voluntary, demonstrated commitment to provide the highest level of quality breast care is required for accreditation. Froedtert & The Medical College Breast Center excelled in a rigorous evaluation process, which was based on performance standards set by the NAPBC for treating patients diagnosed with breast disease. These standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical care, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

“As part of the region’s only academic medical center, Froedtert & The Medical College Breast Center offers our patients an exceptional level of expertise and care coordination through an interdisciplinary team approach,” said Alonzo Walker, MD, director of the center. “This national recognition underscores our dedication to providing the highest level of care.”

According to the NAPBC, receiving care at an accredited breast care center ensures that a patient will have access to comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services; a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options; information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options; and quality breast care close to home.
