Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Among Top Academic Medical Centers
Milwaukee, WI (November 11, 2008) – A nationally recognized scorecard for measuring the quality of major academic medical centers ranks Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin in the nation’s top dozen organizations, earning a “Rising Star” designation awarded to just five of the 88 participating institutions.
Conducted annually, the review by the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) assesses the performance of its academic medical center members in areas considered essential to providing high-quality care. Approximately 70 quality metrics are used to analyze performance in areas ranging from mortality rates to how patients rate their experience at the hospital.
“This recognition by the UHC is an outstanding achievement for our organization and reflects a deliberate, highly collaborative focus on delivering excellent care,” said John A. Weigelt, MD, medical director of clinical quality for Froedtert & The Medical College. “It also underscores our leadership role as an academic medical center in setting the standard of care.”
Froedtert & The Medical College scored first nationwide in the mortality measure for reducing its mortality rate and first in the equity measure for providing care that is equitable regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status. Other measures in the scorecard were based on patient safety, the efficiency and effectiveness of care, and the “patient centeredness” of care, reflecting the national Institute of Medicine’s six aims for improving healthcare.
