I think I heard a few moans just from reading the title. Spring cleaning is not limited to dusting, windows and vacuums. Cleaning is important, but so is safety. When you start your spring cleaning this year, there are other non-traditional "things" around the home related to safety that you should tackle. So where to start?
The medicine cabinet is one of the items that can be added to the list. You do not need to keep every prescription that has ever been prescribed. Go through the bottles, including over-the-counter medications. Look for expired medications and old prescriptions. Do not flush them or throw them in the garbage. Local communities have free medication collections days where you can dispose of your old meds. The collection will then be discarded safely for the environment.
Do you have children in your home or children that visit? Time to check the toys, especially the outdoor ones. Check for splinters, cracks or anything that could have a sharp edge. Looks for loose screws or bolts, paying special attention to bikes, scooters and playground equipment. Toys that have batteries should be checked for leaky batteries. The electrical toys should be checked for any frayed or exposed wires. The toys that cannot be repaired should be sent to the trash.
Ok, time for me to attack the dog hair dust bunnies.
