Regional Cancer Network Formed
New regional network makes Medical College of Wisconsin cancer experts available in more community settings.
Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin have formed a regional cancer network to enhance patient access to specialists in their own communities. Community Memorial Hospital (Menomonee Falls) and St. Joseph’s Hospital (West Bend) are now part of the Froedtert & The Medical College Cancer Network.
Medical College of Wisconsin radiation oncologists have practiced at Community Memorial since 1993. They are joined there by Medical College medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists and neuro-oncologists. In addition, Medical College urologic oncologists see patients at Community Memorial Medical Commons, a multi-specialty clinic located minutes from Community Memorial.
In West Bend, Medical College radiation oncologists collaborate with St. Joseph’s Hospital medical oncologist Ijaz Arshad, MD, providing treatment at The Alyce and Elmore Kraemer Cancer Care Center. Medical College gynecologic oncologists, urologic oncologists and plastic surgeons are available at Froedtert & The Medical College Specialty Clinics at St. Joseph’s.
Through the Cancer Network, patients receive the highest standard of treatment at their community hospitals. Medical College cancer specialists collaborate with community physicians to form treatment plans and ensure continuity of care. If patients need highly specialized treatment, connections to Froedtert & The Medical College are coordinated through the Network. Patients may have follow-up care at their own cancer care centers. Electronic medical records are quickly accessible to providers at any Cancer Network site.
Patients also have streamlined access to clinical trials, second opinions, genetic screening and counseling, rehabilitation, nutrition counseling, social services, educational programs and more. Radiation Oncology Program Nationally AccreditedThe Medical College of Wisconsin Radiation Oncology program at St. Joseph’s Hospital has been accredited by the American College of Radiology. Only about 10 percent of the nation’s radiation oncology practices achieve that recognition.
