Almost 600 guests gathered at the Pfister Hotel to celebrate the history and future of Froedtert Hospital at our first gala evening, the
Heritage and Hope Celebration. The ballroom of the Pfister was bursting at the seams with family and friends of Froedtert Hospital, new and old, who had gathered to celebrate.

During the evening, the Froedtert Hospital Foundation Board of Directors bestowed three
Heritage and Hope Awards for exemplary service to three leaders important to the Hospital’s 30-year history and continued success. Thomas Smallwood , J. Frank Wilson, MD and William Petasnick have each made significant contributions to the advancement of academic medicine at Froedtert Hospital. All are leaders in the hospital and larger community, distinguished for exceptional integrity and advocacy. They were well-deserved tributes for three leaders whose vision and commitment shaped our hospital. Following the awards presentation, guests were treated some Milwaukee memories with former Milwaukee Bucks player, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Diagnosed with a form of leukemia, he also shared his story of triumph over cancer and spoke with appreciation of Froedtert’s research program. “I was very happy to come here and do this event. Research is the only way we're going to beat cancer, and Froedtert is one of the leaders in our nation in all areas of cancer research." Funds raised at the event, over $200,000, will benefit clinical and translational research at Froedtert.
