Commitment to Community

Education/Workforce Development

Froedtert Hospital is committed to investing in programs that will help us grow the diverse healthcare workforce of tomorrow.

UWM College of Health Sciences Minority Scholarships

Each year, the Froedtert Minority Scholars Program awards $1,000 scholarships to five distinguished minority undergraduate students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) College of Health Sciences. Scholarships are based on students’ academic achievement, financial need and volunteer service.

UWM College of Health Sciences Minority Internships

Through the UWM Minority Internship Program, students enrolled at the UWM College of Health Sciences spend 10 intensive weeks at Froedtert learning about hospital operations and career development under the guidance of a staff mentor. The program provides interns with exposure to the day-to-day operations of a hospital, as well as the variety of career opportunities available to health care graduates

REACH Program

Froedtert’s REACH Program provides training and employment opportunities to help young adults in the urban community pursue careers in health care. REACH assists individuals ages 18-24 who have, or are within six months of receiving their high school diploma or GED, but lack the skills or experience to compete in the job market.

The program is a partnership between Froedtert Hospital and various community workforce development partners. While participating in work readiness programs through the Milwaukee Workforce Investment Board, students work at Froedtert about 20 hours per week for six months. REACH is a true collaboration of students, supervisors and mentors. The students receive hands-on, paid training at Froedtert under the guidance of hospital mentors who offer their time, advice and energy to enhance the learning experience of the students.

Minority Clerkship Program

Through the Minority Clerkship Program, first-year law students at Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have an opportunity to develop their legal skills and gain real-world experience during summer clerkships in a variety of settings. The program, sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin, promotes diversity in the legal profession. Froedtert’s legal department has hosted a summer clerk since 2005, and is proud to play a role in promoting diversity at Froedtert and the region.
